How much CBD Oil Should I take?

When the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 passed, CBD oil derived from hemp became legal. Ever since, the popularity to buy CBD or cannabidiol, oil has exploded. CBD oil retailers get a lot of questions about CBD. One of the most common questions we’re asked is what’s the right dosage for me. That’s what we’re exploring today.

HOW DO I DETERMINE THE RIGHT CBD OIL DOSAGE FOR ME?

You should focus on four primary factors when determining the right CBD oil dosage for your needs. These are your body weight, which condition you are trying to treat, your individual body chemistry and the concentration of Hemp oil in the product you are taking.

How to Calculate the Dosage

Some companies make finding the CBD oil dosage tricky. With many CBD manufacturers, products feature 50 mg/ml. If you have a product, such as a bag of gummies, that advertise 200 mg of CBD, divide the total amount of CBD by the number of gummies in the package. If there are 20 gummies in the package, each gummy contains a 10 mg dose of CBD.

Ideal Dosage By Weight

So, now that you know how to calculate the dosage of CBD, what is the best dosage for your weight? When you’re taking CBD oil for pain relief, a good rule of thumb is to take between 1 and 6 mg of CBD for every 10 pounds of bodyweight depending on your pain level.

For example, if you weigh no more than 150 pounds, take roughly 12 mg of CBD oil for mild pain, 15 mg for moderate pain and 18 mg for severe pain. Similarly, if you weigh between 151 and 240 pounds, the right dosage for you maybe 18 mg for mild pain, 22.5 mg for moderate pain and 27 mg for severe pain. Finally, if you weigh over 240 pounds, you will probably experience ideal relief at 22.5 mg for mild pain, 30 mg for moderate pain and 45 mg for severe pain.

Can I Take Too Much CBD Oil?

CBD oil research conducted in 2011 and 2017 found high doses of 1.5 grams per day is well tolerated in humans. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that you will “overdose” on CBD oil. However, everyone metabolizes CBD oil differently.

Your friend might weigh the same as you, take 50 mg of CBD oil every morning and night and experience no pain. But you may only need to take 20 or 25 mg daily. To find the right dose for you, start with a small dose of 20 to 40 mg per day for severe pain. After a week, increase your daily dose by 5 mg until you find the most effective dose. Your dosage should look something like this:

  • Week 1 – 20 mg
  • Week 2 – 25 mg
  • Week 3 – 30 mg
  • Week 4 – 35 mg

We strongly recommend keeping a journal of how much CBD you’re taking, when you’re taking it and how much your symptoms improved on a scale of 1 to 10. This can be done in a physical journal or note app on your phone.

If your symptom relief reaches a 10 out of 10, there is no need to go up an additional 5 mg next week. However, you may have to keep a few logs over time to identify the right CBD oil dosage for you at mild, moderate and severe levels of symptoms.
